What you missed today

Good evening!

What would you do if your company issued you an ‘IOU’ in lieu of your pay?

Well, here are the 7 things you missed today:

1.  👓 Meta Hosted Its Connect Developer Conference

Meta hosted its Connect 2024 developer-centric event today with a keynote from Mark Zuckerberg and a host of new tech including: Orion (the company’s first consumer full holographic AR glasses), Quest 3S headset, Meta AI voices (featuring Kristen Bell, John Cena, and Dame Judi Dench), Llama 3.2 model, and more.

2.   CEOs Saved Time

3. 😮 OpenAI’s CTO Mira Murati Is Leaving

After six and a half years, OpenAI’s Chief Technology Officer Mira Murati is leaving the company. In her announcement today, she said she’s “stepping away because I want to create the time and space to do my own exploration. For now, my primary focus is doing everything in my power to ensure a smooth transition, maintaining the momentum we’ve built.”

4.  👔 You Need A Personal Brand

Want to build your personal brand on LinkedIn or Twitter without the hassle?

Playbookz, a top 1% ghostwriting service, can grow your reach to 100k+ in just 6 months - or they work free! Sit back and watch the results pour in.

5. 🌪️ Hurricane Helene Intensifies Toward Florida

Helene has officially become a hurricane after intensifying and growing in size as it crosses the Gulf of Mexico. Residents in Florida and Georgia have already begun to evacuate, close schools, and declare official emergencies. The storm is expected to hit the west coast of Florida tonight with tornado risks into Thursday.

6.  🛬 Southwest Airlines Is Cutting Service

In an effort to slash costs, Southwest Airlines is planning to reduce service to and from Atlanta next year. The plans cut more than 300 pilot and flight attendant positions and come a day before Southwest’s investor day. Wonder how that will go.

7.  🖼️ Sotheby’s Issued IOUs to Staffers

Art sales are not what they used to be, and no one knows that better than collectables broker Sotheby’s. The auction house has nearly doubled its debt from 2019, and even sent some staffers promissory notes in the spring in place of incentive pay. They’re also as much as six months behind on payments to art shippers and conservators.

Bonus. CEO Tip Of The Day

This piece was a really helpful reminder that the ultimate success metric is whether you get what you want out of life. Not what other people want for you or what you think you should be doing (because everyone else is doing it). Thought you could use it too.
