3. 🚨 FTC Opened An Antitrust Investigation On Microsoft
The Federal Trade Commission is launching a sweeping investigation into Microsoft’s practices starting with a letter to the tech giant demanding it hand over information to help with the probe. (CNN)
4. 🛰️ FCC Approved T-Mobile & SpaceX License
The Federal Communications Commission said it has approved a license for T-Mobile and SpaceX Starlink to provide supplemental coverage from space in a bid to extend internet access to remote areas. This is the first time the FCC has authorized a satellite operator to collaborate with a wireless carrier on coverage. (CNBC)
5. 😬 Bluesky’s Open API Might Be A Problem
Bluesky has assured users that it’s not training AI systems on user content… but its open API makes it pretty easy for third parties to do so. A researcher recently pulled 1 million public posts from Bluesky for machine learning research, showing the lack of limitations of the rising platform. (TechCrunch)
6. 🇨🇳 Volkswagen Sold Its Xinjiang Car Plant
Many companies have been criticized for running forced labor operations in Xinjiang, China – and now, Volkswagen is selling its plant in the northwest China region due to “economic reasons.” The company said that there’s no business case for the plant as it’s effectively operated recently as a distribution center for models produced elsewhere. (CNN)
7. 🥷 T-Mobile Thwarted A Hacker Attack
You don’t hear about this happening much, but US phone giant T-Mobile detected “attempts to infiltrate [their] systems” in recent weeks in an industry-wide cyberattack. T-Mobile said that hackers had “no access” to customer calls, text messages, or voicemails during the attempted attack. (TechCrunch)
