What you missed today

Good evening!

If you’ve got $8 million of ad budget sitting around, I might have an idea for you…

Here are the 7 things you missed today:

1. 🦾 Microsoft’s Azure is Getting a DeepSeek Model

Microsoft is the latest to get in on the DeepSeek hype with its cloud service Azure AI Foundry getting access to R1, DeepSeek’s reasoning model. In its announcement, Microsoft said users will soon be able to use “distilled flavors” of R1 to run locally on Copilot+ PCs. (TechCrunch)

2. 📈 Does Your Biz Do More Than $500k/yr?

Or... are you a fast-growing startup? If you fall into either of those buckets, you need a team that can handle anything you want on your website. Be it new pages, new functions, new features... you need a dedicated team that gets it done quickly. That's what OneNine does for 500+ clients.

3. ✂️ Starbucks is Cutting 30% of its Menu

In an effort led by CEO Brian Niccol to simplify the company’s offerings, reduce wait times, and improve its customer experience, Starbucks is planning to eliminate a significant number of drinks and food options. Specific products haven’t been named yet but the goal is for Starbucks to “be more responsive and tuned in to cultural moments.” (CNN)

4.  👨🏻‍💻 Hiring Developers?

Recruiting is a $220 billion industry in the United States. That’s a ton of money spent on sloppy recruiters who don’t understand your business.

👉🏼 Instead of paying insanely high recruiter fees, try out Go Carpathian with 0 obligation. They partner with universities and industry experts in over 30+ countries to get you the best talent from places like Eastern Europe and Latin America without breaking the bank.

5. 🏈 30-Second SB Commercials are Selling for $8M

Corporate demand has surpassed expectations for this year’s big game, with broadcaster Fox selling at least 10 of its commercial spots for upward of $8 million each for 30 seconds of ad time during the game. Would you do it? (CNN)

6. 🛩️ Frontier Airlines Wants to Merge With Spirit

Less than two years after a previous plan fell through, Frontier Airlines is making another offer to merge with bankrupt Spirit Airlines. Spirit rejected its latest offer saying it’s “far short” of what shareholders would expect… but one might assume a bankruptcy can change things. (CNN)

7. 👑 Sam’s Club Dethroned Costco Due to Tech

Walmart-owned Sam’s Club dethroned Costco to claim the top spot in the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) 2024 rankings for general merchandise retailers. The main factor? Sam’s Club’s heavy investment in technology, including its Scan & Go service which allows customers to skip checkout lines entirely. (Quartz)

Bonus 1. CEO Tip Of The Day

I’m sorry to tell you but going viral on social media isn’t always the win you think it is. Andrew Chen shares how his product going viral ended in less valuable leads and low-value users.
