1. ✌️ Apple’s Head of UI Design is Leaving For Meta
Lots of moves happening over at Apple this week. Alan Dye, who has led Apple’s UI design team since 2015, is leaving to join Meta as its chief design officer with oversight on design for “hardware, software and AI integration for its interfaces.” Apple’s AI chief John Giannandrea is also stepping down to be replaced by Amar Subramanya, a highly regarded Microsoft executive who spent 16 years at Google. 3. 🧜♀️ OpenAI is Acquiring Neptune, an AI Model Training Startup
OpenAI is apparently buying itself an early holiday gift this year. The AI company has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Neptune, a startup that builds monitoring and de-bugging tools, for an undisclosed amount. Neptune and OpenAI have previously collaborated on a metrics dashboard to help teams building foundation models and will work “even more closely” now. (CNBC)

5. 🎟️ Eventbrite is Being Acquired by Bending Spoons for ~$500M
This is one big event. Global event ticketing marketplace Eventbrite entered into a definitive agreement to be acquired by Bending Spoons, owner of AOL (pending), Brightcove, Evernote, Meetup, Vimeo, and WeTransfer among many others. The all-cash transaction is valued at approximately $500 million and will help Eventbrite “accelerate innovation and strengthen its tools and resources.” (Bending Spoons)
6. 🪽 Wing’s Walmart Drone Deliveries are Live in Atlanta
Atlanta readers, take note. Starting today, Walmart is starting to offer delivery via drone at six stores in the Atlanta area. The service, provided by startup Wing, allows customers to receive groceries, household items, and over-the-counter medicine in “as fast as 30 minutes.” The service is already available in Dallas-Fort Worth and is expected to expand to Charlotte, Houston, Orlando, and Tampa. 7. 🔮 Fanatics Launched its Prediction Market in 24 States
Can anyone predict how this offering is going to go? Sports merchandiser Fanatics announced its launching Fanatics Markets, its own prediction market, in 24 states this week including California, Texas, Florida, and Washington. The initial launch will allow people to trade on events in sports, finance, economics, and politics, but expects to expand into crypto, stocks, tech, music, and more early next year. (CNBC)
