Here are the 7 things you missed today:
1. 👋 Sequoia’s Roelof Botha is Stepping Down
After just three years as the Senior Steward leader of storied VC firm Sequoia Capital, Roelof Botha is stepping down. The firm announced that partners Alfred Lin, who has been with the firm since 2010, and Pat Grady, a partner for nearly 19 years, will succeed him as Co-Stewards. (TechCrunch)
2. 🪵 WOOD FOR THE NEXT GENERATION IS HERE*
Wood has been the go-to in building for centuries, until now.
Introducing wood that doesn't come from trees: ACRE by Modern Mill. It’s made in Mississippi from upcycled rice hulls, agricultural waste that usually gets burned or dumped. The material stains like wood, looks like wood, but has much less maintenance needs and just as much beauty!
The company is targeting to revolutionize a $500B+ building materials market, starting with siding, trim, decking and more. This is how the next generation builds →
3. 🎥 Sora is Now Available on Android
Non-iPhone users rejoice. OpenAI’s AI video generator Sora is now officially available for Android users in the U.S., Canada, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam. The app follows the tool’s iOS app launch in September which amassed over 1 million downloads in a week. (TechCrunch)

5. 🚙 Rivian Launched Another Spinoff Company
You know what they say about sequels, always better than the original (right?). The electric vehicle company has created its second spinoff company this year: an industrial AI and robotics venture called Mind Robotics to use “industrial AI to reshape how physical world businesses operate and leverage Rivian operations data as the foundation for a robotics data flywheel.” (TechCrunch)
6. 🇨🇳 Starbucks Sold its China Business For $4Bn
Starbucks is leaving China… sorta. The coffee company is selling control of its China operations to investment firm Boyu Capital in a deal valued at $4 billion. Boyu will hold an interest of up to 60% in Starbucks’ Chinese retail operations while Starbucks will retain a 40% interest and continue to own/license the brand and intellectual property. (CNN)
7. 🥞 Denny’s is Going Private
Your road trip stop is going private. Struggling 72-year old American diner chain Denny’s is selling itself to TriArtisan Capital Advisors, a private equity firm that also owns P.F. Changs, and Yadav Enterprises in a $322 million deal (excluding its substantial debt). If accepted by shareholders, DENN will be delisted from the Nasdaq, ending its nearly six-decade run. (CNN)
