Good Evening!
There’s really some irony in Downdetector going down in an internet outage.
Here are the 7 things you missed today:
1. 😵 Cloudflare Caused a Massive Outage
Had trouble accessing ChatGPT, Spotify, Downdetector, or X this morning? That’s all thanks to an outage at internet infrastructure giant Cloudflare. A fix was implemented less than two hours after the outage (around 8am ET) and was triggered due to “a latent bug in a service underpinning [their] bot migration capability.” (TechCrunch)
2. 🏗️ FROM MISSISSIPPI: A NEW CATEGORY OF BUILDING MATERIALS*
For generations, building meant cutting down forests. Modern Mill changed that equation with ACRE, a wood-alternative material made from rice hulls. Manufactured in the US, ACRE stains like wood with reduced maintenance requirements.
The company has raised $85M and is targeting a $500B building materials market.
3. 😮💨 Meta Officially Isn’t a Monopoly
It’s been a big day for Meta. A federal judge ruled that the social networking platform has not monopolized the social media market, a major win for the company in a landmark antitrust battle with the Federal Trade Commission. The decision, which can be appealed by the FTC, means Meta will not immediately face demands to undo acquisitions of Instagram and WhatsApp. (The Verge)

5. ✨ Google Launched Gemini 3
Meet the newest AI model in town. Google released Gemini 3, its latest and most advanced foundation model, which is now immediately available on web and through the Gemini app. Google’s new most capable LLM yet comes just seven months after the release of Gemini 2.5, less than a week after ChatGPT 5.1, and two months after Claude Sonnet 4.5. (TechCrunch)
6. 😤 Jeff Bezos is Back in the CEO Trenches
Missed CEO-version Bezos? Well, you’re in luck. Amazon’s founder is partly backing a new AI startup called Project Prometheus, which has raised $6.2 billion in funding, and will take on the role of co-chief executive of the new venture. Bezos will share the position with Vik Bajaj, who previously led and co-founded Google’s life sciences division. (TechCrunch)
7. 👀 Is Tim Cook Leaving Apple Next Year?
According to rumors, maybe! The Financial Times reported that Cook could step down from his position as Apple CEO as early as next year as the board has started to seriously work on a succession plan. FT reports that John Ternus, Apple’s senior VP of hardware engineering, is considered the frontrunner for the position. (The Verge)
