6. 👴🏻 Ford Rehired ‘Gray Beard’ Engineers After AI Failed
Maybe AI can’t do everything… Ford execs said they’ve hired 250 veteran engineers (including some former employees) after AI and automated systems failed to deliver the company’s desired quality level. It doesn’t mean that Ford is abandoning its AI plans entirely, especially as it uses the rehired employees (referred to as “gray beard engineers”) to train younger staff and reprogram AI tools. 7. 🤔 BP’s Deputy CEO is Retiring With No Replacement
After 26 years at BP, deputy CEO and trading chief Carol Howle is retiring later this year. CEO Meg O’Neill announced there are no plans to appoint a replacement for the role after Howle leaves in Q3 as the oil giant is making significant changes to streamline the organizational model. Howle’s trading responsibilities will be taken over by Sam Skerry, moving into the role of head of supply, trading, and shipping on August 1. (Quartz)
