A group of three hedge fund organizations have filed a lawsuit against the Securities and Exchange Commission over new regulations concerning short-selling activity that they say are “contradictory.” Read more here.

2. 🚙 Tesla Fights California DMV Complaint

California’s Department of Motor Vehicles filed a complaint in July 2022 that Tesla falsely advertises its Autopilot-enabled cars as an autonomous vehicle system. Tesla is claiming the state laws violate the First Amendment. Read more here.

3. 🧑‍⚖️ Google’s Record-Setting Antitrust Loss

Google was found to have violated antitrust laws to extract feed and limit competition from Epic Games and other developers on its Play mobile app store. The case may rewrite the rules on how businesses make money on Android. Read more here.

4. 🤖 UK Allows ChatGPT in Legal Rulings

The UK Judicial Office is permitting judges to use ChatGPT and other AI tools to write legal rulings and perform other tasks. Hugely different from the distaste for AI in the US legal systems at the moment. Read it here.

Chinese eCommerce company Temu took this top honor with their app now attracting longer engagement times than Amazon. This year, apps from Chinese-based companies, like TikTok and CapCut, have taken over the charts. Read more here.
