What you missed today

Good evening!

It’s been a pretty bleak day in the news… except for Canada, they’re doing great.

Here are the 7 things you missed today:

1.  🇨🇦 Canada Got a Surprise Trade Surplus

Great job, Canada! Statistics Canada, the country’s data hub, said the country exported C$638 million more than it imported in June, way more than the C$2 billion trade deficit economists expected. All thanks to crude oil and unwrought gold – accounting for ¾ of the increase in the value of total exports.

2. 🥱 Are You A Tired Agency Owner?

We've been where you are. You have no predictable way to get clients. You have been doing this for years, and you want to sell the agency, but it's not worth enough to sell it yet. Well...

+ Client acquisition funnels

3. 🤔 X Sued Ad Group Over Alleged Boycott

X is accusing the Global Alliance for Responsible Media (GARM) of antitrust violations in a new lawsuit. The suit claims the group, which consists of more than 100 prominent companies including CVS and Unilever, conspired to “boycott” advertising on the platform.

5. 🌦️ SunPower Filed For Bankruptcy

Not-so-sunny days ahead for rooftop solar installer SunPower. After struggling for months due to low interest rates and allegations of misconduct, SunPower filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and plans to sell its assets – listed between $1-10 billion. To note, SunPower shares have collapsed nearly 90% this year.

6.  🧑‍🏫 Mobile Guardian Hit By Cyberattack

Mobile Guardian provides software to allow schools to remotely monitor and manage devices used by employees or students, but today, they were hit by a major cyberattack, leaving thousands of students unable to access files. Singapore reported about 13,000 students from 26 secondary schools had their devices wiped, just one of the impacts of the attack.

7.  ⬆️ Disney is Hiking Streaming Prices

Starting October 17, U.S. subscribers to Disney+ will have to pay $2 more per month for its plans ($9.99 with ads, $13.99 without). Hulu’s prices are also going up to $9.99/mo with ads or $18.99 without. ESPN+ is rising by $1 to $11.99/mo. Don’t worry, though; new features will also be added with the hikes.
