What you missed today

Good evening!

Big day for acquisitions, lawsuits, and companies changing their minds.

Here are the 7 things you missed today:

1.  📵 AT&T is Suing Broadcom Over VMware Contracts

Telecommunications carrier AT&T filed a lawsuit last week against Broadcom, accusing the manufacturing company of “seeking to retroactively change existing VMware contracts to match its new corporate strategy.” The lawsuit also raises concerns that Broadcom isn’t letting AT&T renew support services for previously purchased VMware licenses.

3. 💰 Verizon is Acquiring Frontier Comms in $20Bn Deal

Verizon announced plans today to buy Frontier Communications in an all-cash deal valued at $20 billion to help Verizon compete with AT&T and boost its fiber network. The acquision is expected to close in 18 months and would combine Frontier’s 2.2M fiber subscribers across 25 states – mostly in the Mid West, Texas, and California – with Verizon’s 7.4M Fios connections.

4.  👀 How To Get 5 New Clients EVERY Month, If Not More

Did you hear? Our Founder @MarketingMax is teaming up with Phil Rivers for a special free webinar teaching agencies, consultants, coaches, and software businesses how they can get 5 new clients EVERY month, if not more... for less than 2 hours of work a week!

Why are they qualified to teach this? Well, after scaling each of their agencies to over 7 figures in annual revenue respectively, then selling their agencies for a combined $12,400,000... they are on a mission to help service businesses get off the hampster wheel of referrals!

5. 🔥 Salesforce Acquired ‘Own’ For $1.9Bn

Speaking of major acquisitions… Salesforce has acquired data management and protection solutions company Own for $1.9 billion in cash. This is Salesforce’s biggest deal since buying Slack for $27.7 billion in 2021.

6.  🛢️ OPEC+ is Extending Oil Production Cuts (Again)

Getting deja vu here. The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and its allies announced plans today to extend oil production cuts as crude and fuel prices continue to drop. The group had already extended output cuts in June in a bid to boost crude prices. This time, producers will extend production cuts of 2.2 million barrels per day through November.

7.  ✌️ Many Advertisers Are Leaving X

New market research by firm Kantar found that a net 26% of marketers plan to decrease their spending on X in 2025, the biggest recorded departure from any major global ad platform. The reason? Only 4% of marketers think X ads provide “brand safety” compared with 39% of Google Ads.

Bonus. CEO Tip Of The Day

Remember the founder mode vs manager mode article that went around earlier this week? Here’s the rebuttal: life is always more complex and we could benefit from a bit of nuance.
