2026 is off to a historic start. Apple’s second biggest acquisition ever has landed and it’s bringing in Q.ai, a four-year-old AI audio startup that uses facial expressions to understand humans without a word. While Apple hasn’t disclosed the terms, Financial Times is reporting that Apple is spending $2 billion on the company. (The Verge)

Keep it in the family, I guess. Elon Musk’s SpaceX and xAI are in discussions to merge ahead of a major IPO planned for later this year. The combination would bring Musk’s rockets, Starlink satellites, the X social media platform and Grok AI chatbot under one roof. (Reuters)
6. 💰 Amazon Could Invest up to $50Bn in OpenAI Soon
OpenAI isn’t done raising yet. Amazon is reportedly in talks to invest up to $50 billion in the ChatGPT-maker, which is notable since Amazon has thrown billions of dollars into OpenAI’s competitor Anthropic since 2023. The details are still fluid and the final total is subject to change, but if rumors are true, the term sheet could be signed in the coming weeks. (CNBC)
7. 🔥 Microsoft Gained $7.6Bn From its OpenAI Investment Last Quarter
Well, maybe Amazon has a point. Microsoft noted in its latest quarterly earnings that its net income increased by $7.6 billion from its investment in OpenAI. While neither company has publicly confirmed their 20% revenue share agreement, the two companies have been collaborative with Microsoft investing more than $13 billion in the AI lab and OpenAI agreeing to buy another $250 billion of Microsoft Azure services in September.
