What you missed today

Good evening!

A few fast-casual chains have started delivering food using little robots, but here’s my question… do you tip the robot? What’s the etiquette here?

Anyway, here are the 7 things you missed today:

1.  🖼️ xAI Grok’s Image Generation Launched

And the results are pretty unhinged. xAI’s Grok began allowing users to create AI-generated images, but unlike other mainstream AI photo tools, it seems to have very few guardrails considering the outputs people have been able to create.

Every CEO knows that if you want to rank better in Google and get more organic traffic you need strong, authoritative backlinks. SEO continues to be an amazing growth channel, and studies have shown organic traffic converts much better than almost every other type of traffic.

3. 💉 WHO Declared Mpox a Public Health Emergency

Health stocks have jumped as a result of the World Health Organization declaring the rising mpox outbreak in Africa as a public health emergency. Shares of Danish vaccine maker Bavarian Nordic, one of the only companies with an approved mpox vaccine, jumped 17%.

5. 🏡 Homeowners Are Refinancing

Mortgage applications surged 17% last week with refinances up a staggering 25%, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association. The uptick in refis is in response to a drop in the 30-year fixed-rate mortgage to 6.49%.

6.  🛒 Walmart’s Sales Are Surging

Americans may be cutting back on spending, but not at Walmart. U.S. sales at stores open for at least one year increased 4.2% last quarter and operating income surged 8.5% during the quarter. Digital sales also grew 22%.

7.  🍔 Shake Shack Introduces Robot Delivery

If you’re in LA and order Shake Shack, it might be delivered to you by a little robot on wheels. Serve Robotics is partnering with the fast-casual chain to deliver meals through autonomous delivery robots via the Uber Eats app.

Bonus. CEO Tip Of The Day

If you hate being a manager, you probably shouldn’t be a manager. Even if you’re a company leader. Meet the concept of “The Principal.”
