1. 🤯 OpenAI Co-Founder Andrej Karpathy Joined Anthropic
Andrej Karpathy, the AI researcher who co-founded and formerly worked at OpenAI and previously led AI at Tesla, has joined Anthropic. Karpathy started this week and is working on pre-training under team lead Nick Joseph with a goal of starting a team focused on using Claude to accelerate pre-training research. (TechCrunch)
2. 💍 Oura Filed Confidentially For IPO
Smart ring maker Oura has confidentially filed a draft of its IPO prospectus with the Securities and Exchange Commission. While the company didn’t specify the timeline for an IPO, it’s set to take place after the SEC completes its review process. The company recently reported it’s on track to surpass five million paid members this quarter, a fourfold increase over the past two years. (CNBC)
3. 🤯 California Signed the First Executive Order on AI Economic Disruption
Well, this should be interesting. California’s Governor Gavin Newsom signed an executive order directing state agencies to prepare workers, small businesses, and communities for potential economic disruption from artificial intelligence, the first of its kind issued by a U.S. governor. (Quartz)
4. 👀 Elon Musk Lost His Lawsuit Against OpenAI
According to a unanimous verdict from nine California jurors, Elon Musk’s lawsuits against OpenAI’s co-founders had been filed too late and any harms Musk may have suffered came before the deadline for filing his claims under the law. Musk accused Sam Altman, Greg Brockman, OpenAI, and Microsoft of “stealing a charity” by creating a for-profit affiliate of the AI lab. (TechCrunch)

6. 😬 Meta Laid Off 8,000 Employees
This morning, roughly 8,000 Meta employees logged onto their work accounts to find out they’re being laid off. The cuts are the first wave of a major restructuring the company has framed as “necessary to fund its push into AI.” The cuts amount to about 10% of the company’s workforce and come alongside upward of 7,000 workers redirected into newly created AI-focused teams. (Quartz)
