1. ⚙️ Accenture Acquired Downdetector & Speedtest For $1.2Bn
Downdetector and Speedtest are getting a new owner. Consulting and IT services provider Accenture announced it’s acquiring the Ookla-owned free internet speed platform and free down site platform from Ziff Davis for $1.2 billion. While the acquisition is still subject to regulatory approval, the Ookla platforms’ data will be used to assist cloud service providers and AI hyperscalers. (The Verge)

The underdog has (at least temporarily) replaced the fan favorite. Anthropic’s Claude rapidly jumped to the top of the list of free apps in Apple’s U.S store, replacing ChatGPT. A rep said that daily signups broke records “every day this week,” and its free user count climbed more than 60% since January. It was sitting just outside of the top 100 at the end of January, and spent most of February hovering around the top 20. (Tech Crunch)
4. 💻 Apple Debuted a New Cheaper MacBook
Big week for Apple early adopters. In addition to the tech giant’s previous iPhone and iPad announcements this week, the company is debuting a new cheaper MacBook called the MacBook Neo that runs on a chip similar to the iPad and iPhone. The new Chromebook competitor comes alongside yesterday’s news of the M5 MacBook Air and new MacBook Pro models. (Engadget)
