After 63 years in business, Rite Aid closed its remaining 89 stores last week. Once one of America’s biggest pharmacy chains, Rite Aid filed for bankruptcy in May for the second time in two years. The company’s website is still live and available for former customers to request pharmaceutical records or find another nearby pharmacy to request refills. (CNN)

OpenAI launched a new way for developers to build apps within ChatGPT. Users can now access interactive apps from companies like Booking.com, Expedia, Spotify, Figma, Coursera, Zillow, and Canva. This update puts these applications directly into ChatGPT responses and allows users to pull up these third-party tools in their everyday conversations. This gives developers more opportunities for app distribution, while also providing users with a richer ChatGPT experience. (TechCrunch)

Supermemory is a tool developed by 19-year-old Dhravya Shah that extracts “memories” or insights from unstructured data and helps the applications understand the context better. Now described as a universal memory API for AI apps, the tool builds a knowledge graph based on the data it processes and personalizes the context for the users. It can ingest any kind of data and has recently received backing from executives from major tech giants like OpenAI, Meta, and Google. (TechCrunch)

Mobile advertising company AppLovin is under investigation by the SEC over its data-collection practices. The agency is currently looking into whether the company violated agreements on pushing targeted ads to consumers after being tipped off by a whistleblower complaint. Though the report noted that neither the company nor its officials have been accused of wrongdoing, AppLovin’s stock has tanked since the news broke. (CNBC)

Verizon announced that former PayPal CEO Dan Schulman will take over as the company’s new CEO, starting immediately. He’s replacing Hans Vestberg, who led the company for roughly eight years and will continue to be on Verizon’s board of directors for the next year. He will also serve as a special advisor through October of next year in order to see its $20 billion acquisition of fiber-optic provider Frontier Communications through to completion. (CNBC)
