What you missed today
Good evening!
Do you think marketplace fees should be charged to the sellers or the buyers? 🤔
Here are the 7 things you missed today:
1. 🪄 Disney’s Board Chair Is Stepping Down
Maybe Disney isn’t the happiest place on Earth. It’s Board Chairman Mark Parker is stepping down at the end of the year. Morgan Stanley CEO James Gorman will replace Parker starting in 2025, marking Disney’s fourth board chair in just over three years.
2. 🤑 Behind The Scenes Of A Profitable Course
I’m a big believer in "show me, don't tell me.”
That's exactly what Marisa M. will be doing in her livestream event on Wednesday, October 23 where you can learn to:
Turn no idea into a BIG IDEA that’s bound to succeed
Develop your product 5X faster and attract buyers before launch
Use “experiencification” to make your product irresistible to buyers, even in niche markets
We've been talking about how Marisa can help you for a few weeks now, and CEO Report reader, Lydia S., took our advice:
"Just want you to know that I attended all three of Marisa's classes and am registered for the 4th on Wednesday night. This is the first time I can actually get excited about building a course! Her strategies and tactics are 🔥🔥🔥! So glad I saw the announcement in your newsletter and followed through."
3. ✌️ Walmart Loses CTO After Relocation Mandate
In May, Walmart announced plans to require remote workers in corporate roles to relocate its home base in Bentonville, Arkansas. Cheryl Ainoa, the Chief Technology Officer, said she’s leaving after almost five years because she doesn’t want to relocate. She will remain in her position until February and then be succeeded by Sanjay Radhakrishnan, Walmart’s Senior Vice President of Global Technology.

5. 💰 Poshmark Isn’t Increasing Fees For Buyers After All
You’re always gonna make someone upset, it seems. Shortly after the social marketplace Poshmark announced it would lower fees for sellers and increase fees for buyers, it’s saying “JK!” and reverting to its original fee structure. Why? Well, the fee change resulted in shoppers spending less on purchases, “leaving sellers with less cash in their pockets.”
6. 🍗 Chick-Fil-A Is Launching Its Entertainment App
What should you be doing while you’re eating your chicken sandwich and waffle fries? Scrolling the Chick-fil-A Play App, apparently. Launching November 18, the app will feature, “a variety of content, including an original animated series, scripted podcasts, games, recipes, and e-books.”
7. 🍼 Buybuy Baby Is Closing All Stores (Again)
A little over a year ago, baby retailer BuyBuy Baby filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and shuttered all its stores. Then, Dream on Me Industries bought the intellectual property assets for $15.5M. THEN, they reopened 11 stores with plans to reopen 100 stores over a three-year period. And now, they’re closing all 11 of those stores with plans to transition to an online-only model. What a wild ride.
Bonus. CEO Tip Of The Day
Is being ‘data-driven’ a fad? Well, maybe. Turns out, even all the data in the world might not be able to give you an accurate picture of how a business is doing (remember this when you’re looking at your competitors!)
