2. Oil Prices Spike

The terror attacks in Israel sent crude prices flying on Monday. Bent crude rose by 4% to $88 a barrel. Natural gas prices also jumped by more than 10%. This comes amid fears that the conflict will reverberate throughout the Middle East to oil-producing countries… Read more here.

As Meta’s answer to X attempts to retain the attention of its dwindling daily users, a screenshot suggests that the app will be adding a trending topics section. It seems like a no-brainer move for Threads, but trending topics have historically caused headaches on social media apps, such as spreading misinformation. 4. NYC’s Airbnb Crackdown Fails

New York City has attempted to ban most short-term rentals, but as few as 2% of the city’s 22,000 listings have registered with the city. Listings are still rapidly popping up on social media sites and (still) on Airbnb. The crackdown has apparently just created a thriving black market… Read more here.

5. Creators Spill The Tea

Canopy is a new social media network just for content creators, made by a former TikTok employee. Its pilot program launched today and they plan to start by onboarding 1,000 influencers. It’s expected to be a platform where creators can be transparent about brands and pay rates… Read more here.
