1. 🥇Claude Took ChatGPT’s #1 Spot in the App Store
The underdog has (at least temporarily) replaced the fan favorite. Anthropic’s Claude rapidly jumped to the top of the list of free apps in Apple’s U.S store, replacing ChatGPT. A rep said that daily signups broke records “every day this week,” and its free user count climbed more than 60% since January. It was sitting just outside of the top 100 at the end of January, and spent most of February hovering around the top 20. (Tech Crunch)

3. 🤝 HBO Max and Paramount+ Are Merging Into One Streaming Service
Paramount’s CEO, David Ellison, announced the company’s plans to combine HBO Max and Paramount+ into one streaming service as a result of the Warner Brothers Discovery acquisition. Merging the services would garner roughly 200 million subscribers, given existing totals. And although Paramount+ won the bidding war over Netflix, they now have to get global regulatory bodies to approve the $110 billion merger. (CNBC)

5. 🤑 Nvidia is Investing $4B in Phototonics Firms
Nvidia is gearing up to invest $2 billion each in photonics companies Lumentum and Coherent to boost the speed of its chips and keep up with the AI infrastructure boom. The investment aims to strengthen AI research and development and U.S. manufacturing capabilities. Both photonic companies’ stocks jumped following the announcement. (CNBC)
6. 🍎 Apple Debuted Its Newest iPhone
Retailing at $599, Apple announced the latest iPhone (the 17e) from its budget-friendly line. It comes with an A19 chip and will support Apple Intelligence. The base model will also come with 256 GB of storage, twice the amount of entry storage from the previous generation. The iPhone 17e will be available on March 11. (Tech Crunch)
7. 😬 Amazon’s AI Spending is Scaring Investors
Amazon’s stock fell roughly 12% in February as Wall Street grew skeptical of its AI spending and whether or not it will pay off. The tech giant made investors nervous last month when it pledged to spend $200 billion in AI infrastructure this year—a target that would push its free cash flow into negative territory. (Bloomberg)
