What you missed today
Good evening!
You might be in today’s newsletter. And by that I mean, if you’re one of the 3.4 million people with a federal loan balance above $100k, you’re definitely in this newsletter. 🥲
Here are the 7 things you missed today:
1. 👀 Apple Released First Preview of Apple Intelligence
Apple’s developers got a first look at the company’s v1 of Apple Intelligence, its suite of AI-enabled features to improve Siri, automatically generate emails and images, and sort notifications. If the FOMO is hitting you, you’ll have to wait until later this year for its public release in iOS 18.1.
2. ⚡️ A Lithium Boom is Coming
GM-backed EnergyX stands to gain — and you can become a shareholder today.
Lithium is essential for the batteries used in EVs. With every automaker transitioning their fleet to fully electric, demand is expected to increase 20x by 2040, far outstripping current supply.
EnergyX has developed patented tech that can extract 300% more lithium than current methods. The company has opened its investment round to the public, but only for a limited time — here’s what you need to know:
$89M+ invested to date, including General Motors leading a $50 million round
$5M grant from the U.S. Department of Energy
Strategic agreements in place with top lithium producers
Nearly 100 patents across 19 patent families
3. 😳 1M People Owe More Than $200k in Student Loans
New reports showed that in Q2 2024, 2.4 million borrowers have a federal student loan balance between $100-200k, while 1 million people have a balance of more than $200,000. That’s a lot of avocado toast and lattes.

5. 🖥️ Apple Agreed to First U.S. Labor Deal
Workers at the Apple store in Towson, Maryland voted to join the International Association of Machinists union in June 2022. On Friday, Apple and the union agreed to a tentative labor deal, making history as the first U.S. labor agreement for any U.S. workers of the tech giant.
6. ✋ DOJ Asked Federal Court to Reject TikTok Bid
TikTok filed a bid in May to have the law that could ban it overturned. Now, the Department of Justice is asking a federal court to reject the bid, citing national security concerns, including its use of internal search tools to collect info on users’ views around sensitive topics.
7. 🍔 Fast Food Chains are Struggling
Many major fast food chains, including McDonald’s and Taco Bell, are trying to win back customers with discounted meal deals after low second-quarter results. Might be a good strategy as over 60% of respondents to a recent survey said they cut back their fast food spending because it’s too expensive.
Bonus. CEO Tip Of The Day
