Tom Blomfield, one of the biggest names in U.K. tech and co-founder of British fintech company Monzo, is taking a leave of absence from his role as general partner at Y Combinator to join Anthropic’s compute team. Blomfield is joining as a member of technical staff, a catch-all job title Anthropic uses for senior employees. (Business Insider)

A group of 12 state attorneys general filed a lawsuit challenging Paramount Skydance’s proposed acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery. The lawsuit seeks to block the long-anticipated merger of the two companies on antitrust concerns as the feal would mean the formation of the largest portfolio of TV networks in the U.S. (CNBC)

5. 😮 Meta Removed its Controversial Instagram AI Feature
Less than a week after Meta rolled out a bunch of AI tools including a feature that allowed users to modify public IG photos using AI, the Instagram parent has axed the feature. Muse Image’s new feature was hit with immediate backlash from users rushing to opt out of the feature, and the company says it “missed the mark.” (TechCrunch)
6. 🚫 NYC Banned Deceptive Subscription Practices
New York City is becoming the first U.S. city to adopt a rule that bans companies from using deceptive subscriptions to trap customers into paying for gym memberships, streaming services, and other recurring charges. Starting October 1, companies that don’t provide a simple way to cancel could be fined $525 per user subscription, back fees, and additional fines. (The Guardian)
