1. 🏡 Rocket Homes Has Been Accused of an Illegal Kickback Scheme
The top US watchdog agency for consumer finance accused Rocket Homes, a unit of Rocket Companies, and The Jason Mitchell Group real estate brokerages of an illegal kickback scheme to push mortgage applications back to Rocket including incentives such as awards of $250 gift cards to agents making the most referrals. 3. ☕️ Starbucks’ Christmas Strike is Spreading
Starbucks’ Workers United strike that began on Friday has continued to escalate, as expected, to almost 50 stores across new cities including Boston, Portland, and Dallas-Fort Worth. The worker walkouts are part of an effort to push for better working conditions and wages. (Quartz)

5. 🏬 Nordstrom is Going Private in a $6.25Bn Deal
The upscale department store chain is going private in a $6.25 billion deal led by its founding family – Erik, Pete, and Jamie Nordstrom. The family will have a majority ownership stake in the 123-year-old company while Mexican department store chain El Puerto de Liverpool will acquire the remaining shares they don’t own. (CNN)
6. 🏚️ The Container Store Filed for Bankruptcy
46-year old organization company The Container Store has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy amidst customers cutting back on discretionary spending. The company revealed it has about $230 million in debt and just $11.8 million in cash on hand but will receive $40 million in fresh financing. The chain’s 102 stores and website will remain open. (CNN)
7. 🛍️ Most Americans Shopped in Stores This Holiday
Great news for people who love brick and mortars – according to a new report by card issuer Visa, of all the total retail spending this holiday season in the US, 77% of payments were made in store and just 23% were made online. (Quartz)
