Netflix is doubling down on kids’ gaming with a new standalone app designed specifically for younger audiences. Called Netflix Playground, it’s available as part of a Netflix subscription (although it is a standalone app), and doesn’t have any ads or in-app purchases. It’s targeted for children ages eight and under, and separates games from the main platform, making it easier (and safer) for kids to discover and play. (Tech Crunch)

Neurocrine Biosciences is making a big bet on rare disease treatments. The biopharmaceutical company agreed to acquire Soleno Therapeutics in a $2.9 billion deal. The move centers around Soleno’s therapy for Prader-Willi syndrome, a rare genetic disorder with no approved treatments. Soleno shares jumped nearly 33% after the deal announcement. (Reuters)

Recent leaks surrounding Apple’s upcoming releases suggest the iPhone 18 Pro will no longer be the most expensive item on the menu (though it will remain the most advanced). Instead, all the buzz is shifting to Apple’s long-rumored foldable iPhone, which could mark its biggest design leap in years. 7. 📣 Google Released Its Own Offline-First Dictation App
Google launched its own dictation app, “Google AI Edge Eloquent” on iOS. Akin to SuperWhisper, the free app allows you to dictate on your phone once its Gemma-based automatic speech recognition (ASR) models are downloaded. You can see the live transcription in the app, and you can also turn off the cloud mode to use local-only processing. (Tech Crunch)
