What you missed today
Good evening!
This Friday’s toast goes out to America for adding more jobs than expected in September! 🥂
Here are the 7 things you missed today:
1. 🪧 U.S. Economy Added 254k Jobs
A reason to feel optimistic: September’s U.S. job growth blew past expectations, providing reassurance about the ongoing stability of the labor market. The 254,000 added jobs in September also majorly exceeds August’s monthly total of 159,000 jobs, and the unemployment rate dropped to 4.1% from 4.2%.

Bold move. This move escalates a months-long battle between the two parties over what Stellantis calls an “unlawful strike.”

5. 😌 GM Is Working On Hands-Off Eyes-Off Driving System
No, it’s not like the Waymo self-driving cars. But it’s also not just plain old lane assist and cruise control. GM’s newest update to its Super Cruise advanced driver assistance program would allow drivers to keep their eyes off the road. Currently, Mercedes-Benz is the only car maker to offer such a limited system – called Drive Pilot.
6. 🏡 Zillow Added Climate Risk Data To Home Listings
Will your new home be underwater in 15-30 years? Zillow’s helping you find out with the help of First Street, a climate risk firm analyzing the effects of climate change into property risk scores. For example, just 4% of North Carolina Homes are in a FEMA flood zone, but First Street calculated nearly 12% of homes in the state are at flood risk. Talk about actionable data.
7. 💉 GLP-1s May Be Dropping The Obesity Rate
Obesity rates have been rising around the world for decades, reaching 1 billion people in 2022. But in the U.S., data shows obesity peaked in 2020. The adult obesity rate in the U.S. fell to 40.3% in 2023 from 41.9% in 2020. The timeline matches up pretty nicely with the emergence of GLP-1 treatments like Ozempic and Wegovy.
