3. 🪙 Sam Altman’s Biometric Startup World Raised $52.5M in a Crypto Sale
Online verification startup World, co-founded by OpenAI’s Sam Altman, has raised $52.5 million through a crypto token sale to strategic investors. Participating investors joined a 12-month lockup sale of World’s token, WLD. The money will go to the World Foundation, an exempted limited guarantee foundation based in the Cayman Islands, created to steward the expansion of World’s network. (TechCrunch)

Maybe. Waymo is reportedly looking for a way out of its deal with Uber, which made its robotaxis available on the ride-hailing network in Austin and Atlanta. Waymo already intends to offer robotaxis on its own app in those markets starting in January 2028 alongside the existing offering until their contract ends in May 2028. (TechCrunch)

Midjourney has gone from generating AI cat images to full-body ultrasound scans to… astrology social media? The AI startup has acquired the personalized astrology app Co-Star. The terms of the deal, which apparently closed in spring, haven’t been disclosed, though Co-Star founder Banu Guler will stay in charge of the app following the acquisition. (The Verge)
